Henry Rollins has always been a role model of mine. He is an underdog and committed to self-education. He is a high school graduate, no college, so his life has been his university. I am a huge proponent of NOT going to college unless you are 100% certain of your path and once you are ready for it.
He will be the first to tell you he isn’t particularly gifted at anything except tenacity and a willingness to try. Like myself, he also uses the voices of doubt from within and ringing in his ears from others, to fuel his ambitions. He has also found a way to extricate himself from the dangers of anger and whenever possible, uses anger as a gift.
I have seen him speak live a couple of times and he is extremely intelligent, well spoken and very authentic. He comes from humble beginnings and keeps the blue collar ethos close to this day despite having some financial freedom. He travels the world to really learn about people from all cultures and that is really what makes him tick. People drive him crazy but he loves them and is fascinated about human culture. If you ever get a chance to see him speak, do it!
He also used physicality to get himself through some barriers. He was a scrawny kid who found confidence once he began pushing himself in the world of strength. I can relate once again. Check out the video below and get inspired!
