Here is a old video Joe Fox and myself put together of us training and making up some little circuits. get creative, have fun in the fresh air!
In keeping with the spirit of “living a life in Mocean”…we turn any endeavor we can into a body activated one! Like making a smoothie for example…yeah, we tend to make a lot of smoothies. They are easy, nutrient dense and have turned into an on the road power fuel for us! Why use electricity when you can use human power?! We have a hand crank blender that we take along for the ride…clamp it down in the van and hand crank away. What comes is a power packed drink to fuel as for the next ride…whether that’s on a wave, a bike trail, back country trail or some crazy back road! It allows us to be healthy and creative while on the road, amped up for whatever may come our way.
So we are currently caretaking for two properties, and one is right in the heart of snow country and has a long sloping dirt driveway that is about 150 feet long. Last year our plowing bill here was upwards of $400. that is a lot of money and its a lot of potential movement thats good for the body that we can’t get back. So…this year things are destined to change.
Today I went out and bought a Garant Snow Sleigh for $45 that I’m convinced that will not only replace the need for plows at this property but also at the other property we caretake that has a shorter but still good size driveway.
What the hell?! I mean growing up thats the way it was until we got a tractor but we still had to install chains and get all of the hard to reach spots which often took hours and yup, made us stronger!
So the experiment is on! Plus I’ll take one for the team and review the Poly sleigh shovel 22″ with wear strip, steel handle for everyone to see how it holds up. Its even made in Canada..gasp..not China!! Todays undertaking went very well but we shall see.
Need another great way to move, have fun while improving all around balance, coordination and poise? check out Slacklining.
Meg and I have grabbed a Gibbon Slackline and began trying to figure it out. The other night we made a big fire and had some friends over and set it up and had a blast.
Below is an instructional video on how to use a slackline courtesy of Gibbon, the brand we have.
Its amazing to me the amount of people i talk to who say “i want to move, but i do NOT want to go to the gym”.
“The gym”. As if its a place where all people have to go to “get fit”. and be stared at and to be forced to move in single planes of movement(mostly back and forth, robotic). And they for the most part are right. With the exceptions of some non traditional gyms, like some Crossfit type gyms or movement centers or climbing gyms etc., then most are pretty brutal.
I guess its “better than nothing” if you have to go there but its certainly NOT necessary by any means. It does not have to be where you go to “get fit” or in shape. You can do that anywhere, inside or out and don’t need a gym membership to do it.
Below is a video i made a year back when i visited one of the premier movement educators in the world, Frank Forencich. Frank runs a company called, “The Exuberant Animal” and I believe strongly in Franks writing and teachings. He is the author of some incredible books that closely analyze “the human predicament”. You know, “living in a sedentary world” which was the tagline for my old concept, Perptual Mocean which I began in 1998. It was “Movement in a Sedentary World”. Anyway back to Frank who has dedicated his adult life to researching and studying the hows, why and why nots of human locomotion. He will be referenced often here on theMoceanproject.
check out this video to see some of Franks work and other ways to move dynamically without the gym for sure.
So we will be profiling unique ways people move their bodies. Here is one way demonstrated by Mocean365 and The Mechanic”
